Layout
The layout of the double page magazine features a model on the left hand side of the page, with the written test opposite it. The text ‘USA’ is featured across the pages in the background, and the main title sits across the right hand side on the page. The camera crops the whole of the woman in the shot; including the seat and the flag.
House Style
The text format featured is a styled text-Main title- in Lucida Handwriting, and the background text of ‘USA’ is plain but bold text. The article itself appears to be in Arial. The image used is here is a studio image; which can be identified from the background, lighting and colours. The skin is also airbrushed, showing stronger beauty, which also brings out the colours more. Her pose suggests that she is posing for a photo-shoot; which tells the audience that-with her straight expression-she is serious about the story she’s given.
Images
The images features on this double page spread are a model, and a white and red striped flag. The photo of the model is seen in a long shot, only cropping is part of the magazine itself-her shoe-. The lighting is Studio light; bringing out the strong, deep colours within the images. The mis-en-scene consists of fashionable, dark clothing including black high heels and the deep red of her hair. Though these colours beam and immediately attract the reader’s eyes, they also contrast to the white and red flag that the model sits on. The ‘USA’ links with the American flag that the model poses on; portraying who she is, and her topic discussion. Her black leotard may also portray that she is a dancer, or a performer of sorts. The deep, strong red colours may represent love, beauty or strength.
Font
The main title featured on the right hand side is in Lucida Handwriting, in large text. The background text is bold and large-in simple Arial-. The article’s text is in simple Arial as well; in small font. Also, an initial letter is used at the start of the text: ‘D’. This suggests that this is the beginning of the text; and also attracts the reader eye.
Mode of Address
The article addresses the audience with the language, and the image presented. The language is quite informal, ‘got the love’, which gives an impression that this magazine speaks to the younger audience.
Subject
The photo of the woman takes up almost the entire middle of the left hand page, and only some of the flag enters the right side page. This allows the right hand side of the page to contain the even structure of text, and the left side to mostly contain the woman and the flag; which is the first thing the audience set eyes on.
Representation
The image of the American flag represents the Culture of the woman, and is shown through the ‘USA’ text that merges in the background, and represents her.
Audience
The audience may consist of those who are fans of the image of the woman, or those who acknowledge her music. The audience will fall under the younger generation, perhaps teenagers-25 year old women.
