Band interview
I took a stroll down to the park with 55to catch up on their news this weekend. They have just recorded their third album and it went to number 3 in the charts on release day!
Hello guys and girl! Firstly congratulations are due I believe.
The Funk (Lead guitar and vocals): - Cheers!
Faxes ( Drums and backing vocals): - Yeah yeah we rock much! Ha.
Laura (Bass and backing vocals):-Thank you M! It’s an awesome feeling.

Laura (Bass and backing vocals):-Thank you M! It’s an awesome feeling.
M-So what’s with the nicknames guys? Your fans always ask but I still don’t quite get it.
The funk:- I’m the funk! Full stop.
Faxes:-long story…
Laura:- the funk your funky nuts, *he he*Faxes is faxes, as his surname on predictive text comes up as ‘faxes’ so it stuck as that to all our friends.

Faxes:- Bet your wishing you hadn’t asked right? Ha.
M – No its fine, y’know, each to their own and all that. So how was the recording process for your new album? Did it take longer than you expected?
Laura:- No actually, we worked right to schedule and got it all done in time.
Faxes:- Took a while to get motivated again, but nah we’re alright at time management.
The funk:- We wanted this one to be perfect, grab a new or wider fan base and try and get into as many teens heads as possible, and its easy when you’ve got minds like ours. Judging by numbers, I’d say we’ve pretty much managed to do that.
M – Number 3! That’s pretty damn good for release day my friends. So how about touring? You guys got many dates planned out?
Faxes:- Yep, all we can say is keep glued to our twitter and Facebook, blogs and so on, we’ll be releasing the dates pretty soon, and you’ll be happy to hear we’re doing signings as well this time round, due to so much demand and graffiti on my twitter. Ha. (all laugh)
Laura:- I LOVE TOURING and can’t wait to get back out there! I hate the build-up, you just want to get out there and scream your f****** head off!
The funk:- Yeah…(all laugh), what she said.
M – So what do you guys like to order on your tour? On the rider?
The funk: - JELLY CUBES! Don’t ask, I just like.
Laura:- I can’t really cope without my daily dose of hula hoops, I crave them, can’t really go on without them, I just crash, and, burn!
Faxes:- Kinder eggs. Ha. (all laugh) kind of a thing I have, they taste good, and who can’t resist the toy?
M – What can the fans expect then from your new tour? Has the music changed much?
Faxes:- Well all artists change their style and genre a little as they progress, just to let us grow and expand fan base, sometimes you lose fans and sometimes you gain, it’s just a fact of making the most of the fans you have now as if you change too much you might not have them anymore.
The funk:- Its our way of sorting the loyal fans from the ‘I liked one song, but now I’m bored’ ones.
Laura:- I love anyone who attends the gigs, if they carry on loving the music even if we change slightly, then they’re awesome peeps. If not, we know where you live.
M – How’d you meet then?? Or is that another. Wish you hadn’t asked.
(all laugh)
Laura:- school I guess.
Faxes:- Laura was one of ‘those’ people mind, so we didn’t really ‘hang’ back then.
Laura:- hey! I was only a good girl, detention didn’t appeal to me guys!
The funk:-well I’d say it was the party!
Faxes:- shhh!
M-ha. Another time for that discussion then?
Faxes:- after baby! (cheeky wink)
The funk:-DUCK!!!
Laura:- guys we’re meant to be serious about this, did anyone bring the bread.
M- well you seem very close and a lot of fun so guess friendship really does make a difference in music. I’ll let you get back to your relaxation in this surprising summer weather and feed those ducks. Thanks 55.
This is for my double page spread.

Double page Mock up
^first idea
^second idea
These are a couple of ideas for my double page spread but i want to include a couple more images and have quotes pulled from the main text once the article is written aswell. The first one is bright and happy whereas the second is darker yet nicer which seems to fit in more with an audience from a 'rock' background

Masthead edit
This is the way i created my masthead/logo/magazine title. The M stands for Music obviously. the idea of a singular letter was from Q magazine but the colours are different as well as the house styles.
The purple musical note i believe would make the magazine easily recognisable as its distinctive and original.

Audience Research
As part of my research i created a questionairre in order to ensure i suited my target audience and that my ideas would fit into peoples expectations of a magazine,
These are my results in graph form.
It is clear that my age range of 16-22 would be fine for a music magazine with a Rock genre, prised at £2.50 on a fortnightly circuit and offering a music downlaod as a free gift would all be exceptable for my final product.

Intial images
These are the images I would like to use, however they require several edits in order to be used. For example the date stamps need removing.

R.L.L's Evaluation
Finished. Decided to do a animated video, instead of a Podcast. I spent alot of hours on this; focusing on the timing, colours used, and image arrangment on the page, so i'm hoping that whoever watches this video enjoys it aswell as reading the Evaluation! ^^
(Unfortunatley however, on question 1 some text was cut off accidently due to it's size, so if needed i will upload mine and Lauren's Evaluations to the Blog so you can read all of it. Again, my apologies, i didn't realize until the video was finished.)

Fi:xed Smiles: Comments/Critques on Front Page
I asked a few of my friends at Sixth Form to comment on what they liked, and what they thought could be different about my Front Page.
I began with asking Hayden.
Hayden: "I think the background worked really well, but i don't like the yellow text; it doesn't really work. The image is good, but i think that the band members should be brought foward more; closer to the camera. The text at the bottom left isn't very readable, as goes the advertisment. Other than that it looks good.
I took into account the points Hayden mentioned, then i aske Jenny.
Jenny: I really like the colours; they fit really well together. As for the advertisment, it isn't very readable. It's still a good page though!
After asking Jenny, i decided to ask Emily.
Emily: Very well laid out I think it’s absolutely brilliant! I think the blue and yellow go very well together.
After reading they're comments, i understood a few mistakes i perhaps made; Advertsiment placement, and some colour arrangements.
With these, i can edit the Front Page to improve its appearance.

Front Page Final: Fi:xed Smiles
This is my final outcome of my Magazine cover of 'K ZED'. I used a number of colours, font and effects to create this piece. A number of effects have been used on this photo such as Surface Blur, Sharpen, Exposure etc; including cutting and framing of the image itself. Background was also editted out, and banner was softened with Surface Blur. Articles featured here will also be mentioned and featured in the Contents Page.
About the shot: This 3 shot was captured perfectly; with Hayden-main singer-being the focus, and myself and Jenny being less important and being placed further back behind Hayden. The blue on Hayden's jacket captures the band's name perfectly, and the way he holds the mic shows a casual, confident structure.
Layout of the page has been thought through carefully and to the best of my ability. Text has been placed in certain places to look strong and eye-catching. The advertisment behind the Magazine name is alittle weak but hints the audience into buying the magazine to find out more. The yellow, blue and black work well together, and look stunning and bright against the photo and background.
I may create another Front Page as a comparison; with only Hayden featured in it, and recieve people's opinions and critic over the two.

Masthead
The name of out Magazine is 'K ZED'. The title is in a Bauhaus 93 font, and has a number of effects have been used on it to look bold, appealing and stand out. The title is used behind the images used on the magazine cover, and is featured in large text.
The title is simple yet effective, and is coloured in a blue gradient. The colour matches the magazine's featured colours, and stands out against the white background.
It represents Modern day Rock well; with its simple yet powerful font, and deep blue colouring.

Skyline
On the front cover of a magazine, the Skyline is very importent; due to it's placement and purpose. The Skyline is placed at the top of the page, and usually advertises a freebie within the magazine itself. In my magazine, the Skyline is above the Masthead 'K ZED', and is advertising "FREE-Sample CD of Fi:xed Smiles and Three Days Grace stickers". A blue gradient is placed above the Skyline's text and gradually fades out the white at the bottom; which brings out the text more, and clearly seperates it from the Masthead.
